One Month!

One month, folks! One month! (Insert "happy dance" here)

One month ago I made the best decision of my life and married the most wonderful man in the world. I'm so thankful for him and the circumstances in our lives that brought us together. This picture definitely sums up our wedding day. Best day ever! (Fist pump!)

For those of you who are married out there know that you can learn a lot about a person by living with them...Especially the very first month.

Three Things Learned in 31 Days:

1. Matty has a thing for pillows. Yes, he cares whether the pillow is down, feather, feather AND down, down alternative, etc. I hardly use pillows so I could care less what my pillow feels like never the less what it's stuffed with! So going to target together with our gift-cards from the wedding (shout out to all those people who gave us wonderful wedding gifts! We're so blessed and thankful!) was a big learning experience for me. It was almost a 45 minute process (yes, just in the pillow aisle)...feeling and hugging each pillow. Weighing the options...literally and hypothetically. When all was said and done we walked out of target nearly $125 less rich (sounds better saying it that way:)) with 2 feather and down king size pillows and 2 down queen size pillows. It was an adventure and I'm thankful for my husband's pillow expertise :)

2. Matty can and will eat at least 6 pieces of bacon every morning. If time permitted and we had all the bacon in the world this literally would happen. He loves bacon! It's a plus because I love to cook egg in the middle for breakfast ("One Eyed Sailors" if you know it by that name...RECIPE PLUG: butter bread, cut a hole in the center and crack the egg in the hole and cook...love it! Courtesy to my dad for teaching me.) Matty loves that so add bacon to the side and I've got a very happy husband!

3. Matty talks/screams in his sleep. Oh yes...the whole learning to sleep next to another person thing is a fun one for me because I don't ever know what to expect when Matt is asleep! One of the first nights after we got married, I woke up to Matt yelling at the top of his lungs, "No! No! No!" while he was ripping the blankets away from me. I was terrified! I tried to wake him up but as I've been warned, he doesn't wake up for anything! So I just waited there till I could slowly pull some of the blankets back to my side of the bed and go back to sleep. Crazy night! He really does talk almost every night. I wish he would sing in his sleep. That would be pretty sweet, right?

I asked Matty three things he's learned about me in the past month and he thought about for a while and then handed me a piece of paper that looked like this:

Because the picture is poor quality, I'll clarify.
1. "Kelly wakes up every time I talk in my sleep." It's true. On our honeymoon I woke up to another person's alarm clock that was going off in another room...so of course I'm going to wake up when you talk in full voice right next to me. It makes me smile (now) but as I mentioned before, it would make me smile more if you sang in your sleep so I can hear that pretty voice more often. Please oh please?

2. "Just me unlocking the door to get into the house when I come home almost makes her pee her pants." Yes, Matthew, I'm a scared-y cat; a worry wart; all of the above! It doesn't help that we've been glued to the seasons of 24...I feel like I need to pull a "Jack Bauer" up in here!

3. "She can actually cook really well." Actually huh? I love the phrasing he uses. Thinking back though, I cooked very little while we were dating so the word "actually" works and no offense taken :) I love to cook and love to experiment with things...sounds scary, right? Sometimes I like to think I'm on the food TV show "Chopped". Seen it? Matt and I love it (I got him hooked)! Basically, I like to grab stuff out of the pantry and fridge and make them all work together....you can imagine the interesting things I come up with. One time I made BBQ chicken thighs with raspberry jam over brown rice...sounds weird but we really liked it! Matt went back for seconds and thirds. In my book, that means he liked it. I love doing crock pot recipes! However, I'm still perfecting my roast...last time, the veggies were perfectly cooked but the meat was super dry. I've learned my lesson (Thanks to my father) and I am excited to try it again!

I think it's safe to say that learning these funny things about each other were great and we look forward to learning more. One thing that amazes me is that every day that goes by, I learn I love him that much more (gushy much? Yes, but very true).

Happy One Month, Matty.

Meet George :)

Once we got home from our honeymoon (Maui! Beautiful, tropical, blue green water, white AND black sandy beaches, sunglasses, palm trees swaying, beach towels, lava flows, warm sun...need I say more?), we started settling in to our sweet, little basement apartment in cold but not so cold for this time of year, Lindon, UT. I only say that because it was in the low 50's when we got home...that is insane for this time of year. No, definitely no complaining from me! And now it's back to normal - 34 degrees. But anyway, our apartment. We love it. It's absolutely PERFECT for us and we're so grateful.

Opening wedding gifts, unpacking, organizing kitchen cabinets, hanging pictures, organizing closets (You'd be surprised by who needs more closet space...I'll let you take a guess :)) was a crazy process but it sure was fun to do it together...I should say "is fun"...we still are working on setting up the pantry for all of our "healthy, new year, new body" food (one of Matty's resolutions) and the guest bedroom. Those have been the two places we've kind of thrown things that we don't know what to do with yet. However, we're getting to it slowly but surely. Matt thinks we only have "an hour" left of organizing/setting up...an hour? He makes me smile. I sure love him. I think a full Saturday of blaring Broadway tunes, a good hammer, Lysol wipes, and Johnson and Johnson teamwork would do the trick!

As we were doing all of that organizing, unpacking, etc, I kept saying to Matt that we needed a few plants to breathe in some life to the little place. I think he thought I was crazy but having living plants or other living little things...hint hint...is good for a living space! Yes, yes, I'm one of those people. Fun fact: Kelly likes to learn about feng shui. So...long story short we went and bought a vase, rocks, a lucky bamboo, aaaannnnndddd (insert drum roll here) .....GEORGE!

YAY!!! We're pleased to introduce you to George, the newest member of the Johnson family! We don't really know how the name George came to be but Matt just kept calling him George and then it sort of just stuck. We're happy with it. George is a Betta. Pretty, right? I probably should say handsome...did you know all Betta fishes are males? Okay, well that can't be possible. Let me rephrase that; all Betta fishes sold in pet stores are males. They are the ones with the colorful, flowy tails. The females are short and stubby. Hmm...let me put this Hershey's cookies and cream candy bar back into the candy bowl on my desk at work. Yes, I'm writing this from work...Matty's jealous :)

Any-who, bamboo is lucky because it brings peaceful and wise energy into the home and a fish attracts prosperity and enables achievement. Who wouldn't want those happy feelings floating around a newlywed home?! Okay, okay now that you've been somewhat educated on feng shui...I'm hardly one to teach it; I just like learning about it...please come meet George. He likes guests. So does the Johnson and Johnson team.

About Us...

Matt and I are two lovebirds who love to laugh together, belt Broadway tunes together, drive everywhere together, eat chips and salsa together, clean their little apartment together, watch movies together, be with their amazing family and friends together, fold laundry together, snuggle up with a blanket in front of the fire together, and be silly goofs together. As you can see, we love to be...together.

Along with all that fun stuff we both go to school at Utah Valley University. I will be graduating this Spring with a Theatre Arts Performance major and Matt will be graduating in Digital Media Cinema Production in April of 2013. We are so excited and we obviously, by choice of majors, love the arts. We both do a lot of theatre around Salt Lake and Utah counties when we get the opportunity to and we're so grateful for those experiences!

I call Matt, Matty and he calls me, Kel. That's the way (uh huh, uh huh) we like it.

I love Italian food. Matt loves Mexican. We both adore chips and fresh salsa...you can bet that it's in our refrigerator right now.

Sometimes you'll find me poking Matt's nose and saying, "boop boop". He usually smiles. Usually.

We love all things VINTAGE. Seriously, we're obsessed. You could probably find us strolling around the DI on a Saturday afternoon searching for a good find. (Really, you can find some really sweet, old stuff there!)

We both love listening to Ingrid Michaelson...hence the title of the blog (from her song, "You and I"). Matt's favorite is "The Chain". Mine is "The Way I Am".

I like to paint my fingernails because it usually hides the fact that I bite them.

Matt loves to work out at the gym to get his "sexual healing" bod on. Yes, he'll sing this song while doing his signature dance move, the hip swivel. Ask him to do it...it's worth it.

Matt and I both LOVE peanut M&M's If you want some, come visit us at our humble abode and look down at the coffee table...the goods are there!

So there you are - some fun facts about the happy couple.

Hello!

Hello! My name is Kelly Johnson and I'm really excited to be starting a blog. Frankly, this whole blogging thing scared me at first because I was afraid I would not know what to write about but then I met Matt. Life got interesting and amusing and exciting and we had a lot of fun adventures together and nine months later (no, no baby here) we were married! Basically our lives collided together in a big, happy, colorful, sort of crash and we're both so giddy about it so how could we not let you share in our jubilation!? Bear with me throughout this blogging process and we will have a blast! I just know it.

Like I said, my name is Kelly Johnson. Kelly Johnson. Wow, I like that. I really like that. I like it because I am married to the most wonderful man in the world (Yes, still the giddy newlywed and hope to always be!...remember, I did say to bear with me!). As I mentioned before, his name is Matt Johnson. Excuse me, Matthew Wade Johnson. He really likes his middle name and squeezes it in to conversation whenever possible. Those who know him know this is true. But how could you blame him? It's a good name! We both like our middle names so maybe you should know mine too...Elizabeth. Named after my beautiful grandmother. Elizabeth and Wade. Sounds good, right? I give props to both our parents. Sounds like a high end clothing line or something...Elizabeth and Wade. Or maybe just Elizabeth Wade. Say it all suave like while swiping the air in front of you like you're painting a scene...yeah? Now you get it. Good, huh.

Any-who, we were married in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on December 16th, 2011 and we are the happiest! We hope to keep you updated and entertained with our new adventures of wedded bliss so come along for the ride!

that ever love did make thee run into,
